Two common ventilation systems are ridge vents and attic vents, and both rely on one critical element to function properly: intake ventilation.

Ridge vents are installed along the peak of your roof and run horizontally across the ridge. Their purpose is to allow hot, humid air to escape naturally from the attic.
Because heat rises, ridge vents are considered one of the most effective exhaust ventilation options. They work continuously, require no power, and provide even airflow across the entire roofline.

However, ridge vents can only do their job if there is enough fresh air entering the attic from below.
